Chapter 2- "Accidentally roommates"

--

Author POV:

After dragging her suitcase through crowded streets and enduring a chaotic moving day, she finally arrived. Her flat. Her peaceful corner of the city. Or at least, that's what she believed.

The door clicked open, and she stepped in, smiling with relief.

But fate had a different plan for her today.

---

"Finally! Mera flat ha gaya..."

(Finally! I've reached my flat...) Saanvika whispered with a content smile.

But the smile disappeared the moment she stepped in.

"Hey Ram!!!"

(Oh God!!!) she shrieked, immediately turning her head away.

There, standing in the middle of the room, was a shirtless guy buttoning up his shirt in complete shock.

"Ye kya dekh liya subah subah Bhagwan ji! Sorry sorry, pata nahi ye Angadrastra ki prani kahan se aa gaya!"

(What did I just see this early in the morning, God! Sorry, sorry-I didn't know some mythical creature had moved in!)

---

Vyom looked equally stunned and quickly wore his shirt while shouting,

"Tum kaun ho?! Aur tum andar kaise aayi?!"

(Who are you?! And how did you get inside?!)

---

"Ye baat toh mujhe tumse puchni chahiye! Tum yaha kaise aaye, ye mera flat hai!"

(That's what I should be asking you! How did you get in here? This is my flat!) Saanvika snapped.

---

Vyom frowned. "Kya?! Tumhara flat... huh?"

(What?! Your flat... huh?)

---

"Ji! Mera flat. Aur ye key bhi!"

(Yes! My flat. And this is the key!) she said, showing her key. "Huh, hadh hai! Niklo mere flat se. Pata nahi kaise ghus aaye!"

(Ugh! Get out of my flat. No idea how you even got in!)

---

"Look Miss... whatever your name is-"

---

"Saaanvika. Call me Saanvika, not 'whatever.'"

(Saaanvika. Mera naam Saaanvika hai. Whatever mat bolo.)

Saanvika thought: Is this guy for real? Rude much?

---

Vyom scoffed. "Miss Saanvika, ye flat mera hai. Tumhe koi misunderstanding ho gayi hai, so please get out from here."

(Miss Saanvika, this is my flat. You're clearly mistaken, so please leave.)

---

"Oh hello, kaan kharab hai kya tumhare? Maine kaha na ye flat mera hai!"

(Oh hello, are your ears damaged or something? I told you, this is my flat!) she snapped.

---

Vyom, clearly frustrated now, said, "Room number kya hai?"

(What's the room number?)

---

"407." Saanvika said confidently.

---

Vyom stepped forward. "It's my room no. How is it possible?"

(Ye mera room number hai. Ye kaise ho sakta hai?!)

Before either could answer, the flat owner barged in, looking panicked.

---

"Sorry sir, sorry ma'am! It's not your fault actually. Hamari taraf se confusion ho gaya. Aap dono ko ek hi flat mil gaya. I am really sorry."

(Sorry sir, sorry ma'am! This isn't your fault. There was confusion on our part. Both of you were assigned the same flat. I sincerely apologize.)

---

"Haww! Aap aisa kaise kar sakte hai?! Itni badi confusion?"

(What! How can you make such a big mistake?!) Saanvika scolded.

---

Vyom crossed his arms. "Theek hai, ab sab clear ho gaya, toh tum jao yaha se."

(Fine, now that everything's clear-you leave.)

---

Saanvika looked shocked. "What?! Are you serious?! Ye flat maine pehle book kiya tha! Toh tum jaoge yaha se!"

(What?! Are you serious?! I booked this flat first! So you'll be the one to leave!)

---

"Aur main pehle aaya hoon, toh tum jaogi."

(But I arrived first, so you'll leave.) Vyom retorted.

Vyom thought: This girl is seriously testing my patience.

---

The owner quickly cut in, hands raised.

"Sir, ma'am, actually ek aur problem hai... abhi humare paas koi aur room available nahi hai."

(Sir, ma'am... there's another issue. We don't have any other available rooms right now.)

---

Both of them shouted at once, "TOH?!"

(SO?!)

---

Owner hesitated. "Toh agar aap dono kuch din ke liye adjust kar le..."

(So if both of you could adjust for a few days...)

---

"NO WAY!" both said simultaneously.

---

"Kabhi nahi! Aise kisi paraye mard ke saath bilkul nahi!"

(Never! I won't live with some random man!) Saanvika snapped.

---

Vyom frowned deeper. "Bahut ho gaya! Ab tum niklo, main adjust nahi karne wala!"

(That's enough! Now you leave. I'm not going to adjust!)

---

"Main kyun jaungi?! Main toh full payment karke aayi hoon yaha ki!"

(Why should I leave?! I made the full payment for this place!) she yelled back.

---

"Please aap dono jhagadna band kare. Room half kuch din ke liye adjust kar lo. Phir room no. 401 khali ho jaayega. Tab shift ho jana."

(Please stop fighting. Just share the room for a few days. Room 401 will be vacant soon. One of you can shift.)

---

Saanvika crossed her arms tightly. "Main aise kisi ke bhi saath nahi reh sakti, jo itna rudely baat karta ho."

(I can't stay with someone who talks so rudely!)

---

Vyom turned away. "Main iss ladki ke saath bilkul nahi share karunga."

(I won't share a room with this girl at all!)

---

"God, inhe kaise samjhau... Toh ab dono khali kr de room, kyunki humare paas koi aur option nahi hai."

(God, how do I explain this... Then both of you should vacate the room, because we have no other option.) the owner mumbled in defeat.

---

Author POV:

And that's how a misunderstanding turned into chaos. Two strangers, one flat, zero patience. No escape.

And just like that...

Their story began.

---

-

Author’s POV

The sound of footsteps echoed through the empty hallway of the apartment as she walked in, a small suitcase rolling behind her. Her mind was cluttered, not with fear or excitement—but with the kind of uncertainty that comes when your life suddenly shifts from familiar chaos to unfamiliar calm.

Saanvika’s thoughts were loud inside her quiet mind.

“Agar maine ye flat chod diya, toh phir doosra kahan dhoondungi? College ke sabse paas hai, bina auto ke bhi ja sakti hoon. Paise bhi bachaungi… sab kuch theek hai, bas... bas yeh banda jo already flat mein hai, uske saath adjust kyun karna padega?”

(If I leave this flat, where else will I find another one? It’s closest to college, I won’t even need an auto. I’ll save money… everything is perfect—except why do I have to adjust with this guy who’s already living here?)

But her face showed none of this turmoil. Instead, she placed her bag down and looked up with a subtle calmness that only she knew was fake.

Saanvika muttered under her breath, “Thik hai… main adjust kar lungi.”

(Alright… I’ll manage.)

---

Author’s POV

Inside the living room, he stood with folded arms, clearly annoyed at the sudden intrusion into his personal space. Vyom wasn’t the kind to share anything—least of all his home.

Vyom scoffed, “Great. But main adjust nahi karunga. So please apni payment wapas le lo.”

(Great. But I’m not going to adjust. So please take your payment back.)

Saanvika’s eyes narrowed. She wasn’t here to beg.

“If tumhe itni hi problem hai, toh darwaza khula hai… ja sakte ho. Main nahi jaa rahi.”

(If you have such a big problem, the door is open. You can leave. I’m not going.)

---

Author’s POV

The owner stood between them like a referee in a silent boxing match.

“Sir, please abhi thoda adjust kar lijiye. Kuch din ki baat hai… 15 din ya ek mahina. Aap shift kar sakte ho baad mein.”

(Sir, please adjust for now. It’s just for a few days—15 days or maybe a month. You can shift later.)

Vyom’s face hardened. “Wait… main kyun shift karun?”

(Wait… why should I shift?)

The owner sighed. “Main keh raha hoon dono mein se koi bhi decide kar lo.”

(I’m saying one of you should decide between yourselves.)

Saanvika crossed her arms and gave Vyom a challenging smirk. “Shift toh tum hi karoge, Mr. Arrogant.”

(You're the one who’ll be shifting, Mr. Arrogant.)

Vyom raised a brow. “Woh toh dekh lenge time aane par.”

(We’ll see when the time comes.)

---

Saanvika’s POV

This guy had a serious attitude problem. And God help her, she had zero tolerance for man-child behavior.

“Zaroor… dekh lenge,” Saanvika said calmly, but her eyes said otherwise.

(Of course… we’ll see.)

The owner, clearly done with their growing hostility, gave them a forced smile. “Thank you so much both. Enjoy. I hope you become good friends.”

Saanvika let out a dry chuckle. “Friends? Kabhi nahi…”

(Friends? Never…)

Vyom muttered without missing a beat, “Kabhi nahi… At least ek cheez pe toh hum agree karte hain.”

(Never… At least we agree on one thing.)

---

Author’s POV

Just as she moved toward one of the rooms, Vyom stepped in her way.

“Yahan rehne ki kuch terms and conditions hain jo tumhe follow karni hongi,” Vyom said, his tone smug.

(There are a few terms and conditions for staying here that you’ll have to follow.)

Saanvika raised a brow. “Ohhoh… really? Batao zara kya hai tumhare rules?”

(Oh really? Go ahead, tell me your rules.)

Vyom crossed his arms like a dictator preparing to give a speech. “Bathroom aur kitchen pehle main use karunga. Tum ladkiyan bahut ganda karti ho.”

(I’ll use the bathroom and kitchen first. Girls make a mess.)

Saanvika scoffed. “Pata nahi tum kitni ladkiyon se mil chuke ho jo aise opinion banaye ho. Agar tum use karoge, toh fine. Warna mujhe khaali milega toh main use karungi.”

(God knows how many girls you’ve met to form that opinion. If you use it first, fine. Otherwise, if I find it free, I’ll use it.)

Vyom grumbled, “Huh… Dekhte hain kaise manage karti ho.”

(Huh… Let’s see how you manage.)

---

Saanvika’s POV

Just as I was about to enter one of the rooms, Vyom pushed past me and pointed.

“Yeh room mera hai. Dusre mein jao,” Vyom snapped and threw her luggage outside before slamming the door.

(This room is mine. Take the other one.)

I blinked in disbelief, in like I just witnessed a Bollywood villain moment.

---

Author’s POV

But she didn’t cry. Not yet. She simply dragged her suitcase into the other room and sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the floor.

Saanvika's POV

Then, the frustration finally bubbled out of her.

“Haww… How dare you batameez kahin ka… Kya sochta hai apne aap ko?”

(How dare you, you uncivilized jerk… Who does he think he is?)

But her voice soon softened, anger melting into quiet heartbreak.

“Saanvika, ab chillana band kar… Yeh pehli baar nahi hai na. Tujhe sambhalna aata hai.”

(Saanvika, stop yelling… This isn’t the first time. You know how to handle yourself.)

She sat there, pulling her knees to her chest, whispering to herself.

“Bas ab mujhe apni padhai pe focus karna hai. Orphanage ko aage le jana hai… taki mere jaise bache jinko koi nahi hota, unko zindagi mein kisi ki kami mehsoos na ho… jaise mujhe hui thi.”

(I just need to focus on my studies and take the orphanage forward… so that kids like me, who don’t have anyone, never feel the absence of love like I did.)

Her eyes welled up, but she quickly wiped the tears.

“Her eyes got tears”

(But she whispered) “No no Saanvi… rone ka time nahi hai. Ab toh tujhe khush rehna hai.”

(No Saanvi… there’s no time to cry now. You’ve got to stay happy.)

---

Author’s POV

From behind the closed door, Vyom stood with his back to it, frowning slightly. He’d heard her luggage scrape the floor as she dragged it. Heard the low muttering through the walls. Something in her tone hadn’t sounded like arrogance.

He didn’t know her story. He didn’t care to… yet.

But something about the girl who refused to walk away despite his behavior had unsettled him. She wasn’t weak. And maybe, just maybe, she wasn’t entirely wrong.

He looked at the wall separating their rooms and muttered under his breath.

“Maybe I was a little too harsh…”

---

To be continued

---

****************

Little glimpses of next part-

God… damn.

Her mind screamed even though her lips remained frozen.

His body… those muscles… the wet hair… how is this even legal?

Saanvika blinked rapidly, trying to unsee everything she just saw.

“Uff… so hottt…” she whispered under her breath without realizing she had actually said it aloud.

(“So hottt... His body, his muscular body, his sweaty hair… God damn, he’s so hottt.”)

But her whisper betrayed her.

Vyom turned. “What?”

She froze, like a deer caught in headlights. Oh no. Did he hear that?
